Set in the year 2145 the planet Earth is desperately low on natural resources man has been forced to look to Mars and its resources. Doom 3 opens with your arrival at the Mars Research Facility owned and operated by the United Aerospace Corporation. As a marine knowing very little about the facility or it’s day to day operations you have been recently assigned to the research facility’s security team.

Research, however, isn’t the only thing going on. After becoming familiar with your surroundings by touring the basic facilities and being shown how to use your PDA, you are given as your first assignment, the duty of locating a missing scientist. Upon finding him, the entire research facility is hit by a thunderous shockwave that literally opens up Hell on Earth (or Mars).

The game then continues through 28 spine tingling missions that seem to transport you to a different world. The storyline in itself is very similar to that of the original Doom and Doom 2 games. The 28 missions are linear, so they must be finished before advancing to the next level and do not provide flexibility often seen in some other new games.

This stands in sharp contrast to historical battlefields like Vietnam where the estimated number of rounds fired per enemy killed numbers into many thousands. No, that is not our way. Our way requires patience and accuracy, not not the expenditure of enough brass to remake the Liberty Bell.

Thankfully games designers are beginning to appreciate the world of the sniper. Artificial intelligence is making it possible to have an NPC spotter that doesn't get you seen and killed and won't aimlessly blaze away on full auto as soon as you are spotted. One of the PC games due for release later this year that should put these recent advances into action is Sniper: Ghost Warrior. It promises true bullet physics and much more besides. I almost feel the urge to reach for my ghillie suit and camp out to wait for its release...almost!

2010 could signal the advent of a new type of military game for the PC and other platforms. It all depends on the success or failure of this one new game. If it is a roaring success then no doubt other games design houses will make their own releases in time and the world of sniper games on the PC will flourish. Lets hope that it does.

Need For Speed: Underground 2 was released in 2004 by Electronic Arts to rave reviews. With the ever-advancing technologies available to us, one might stop and wonder what the future holds for role playing games. In this article I'll be talking about how pen and paper role playing games (in general) have changed, the impact Dungeons and Dragons has had on the hobby, and the new directions RPGs are taking.

In the beginning, the rules governing play for most role playing games were not well-written, not clearly defined, and not always easy to find. Too many times, DMs and players would spend too much time flipping through books looking for a rule, or argue endlessly how to interpret a rule. Over time, this has has gotten slightly better, but just slightlty. The current leader of the industry, Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition has taken a huge step in improving rules, though there is still some debate on how some of those rules should be implemented.

A new trend in designing campaigns for RPGs is to use an online database/wiki. There, the game master can write and store everything relating to his or her campaign, including characters, places, maps, and a timeline of events. Obsidian Portal and Epic Words are the industry leaders here, though a supposed Virtual Tabletop version for Dungeons and Dragons is in the works.

One recent advancement of the industry is the addition of e-books. More and more people buy an electronic version of the game they're playing. This makes it convenient to bring a single laptop to the gaming table instead of a stack of hardcovers.

Currently, a suite of tools is available online for players to use with their D&d 4e games. Players and DMs can create characters and monsters, as well as look up statistics, definitions, and rules. It is widely accepted that other games will require this type of support if they are to remain somewhat competitive. An independent website, rpgweb.com, offers the next best thing, though it doesn't offer as much and is not compatable with the latest edition of Dungeons and Dragons.

Sometime within the next few years, a character illustrator (for D&D) will be available to allow players build their characters visually, instead of drawing them manually. Other companies with similar programs are sure to follow.

Some believe that Palladium Books might have a chance to equal or even overtake the success of Dungeons and Dragons, if they would only overhaul their rules system. Indeed, they have a large amount of quality content and settings, but have failed to keep up with current trends in gaming. This has led Palladium Books to lose buyers, while a few loyal fans patiently wait for the updated version, one that may never come.

In conclusion, Dungeons and Dragons is the industry standard that most other games need to follow, if they want to remain competitive. There will always be a market for those games that don't hop on the bandwagon, but it will be a small market.

On the PC it offers wonderful single-player campaign successful console versions, offering new graphical enhancements with higher resolution and many new upgrades and features to the community elements and multi-player. This allows you to import personal music to a custom radio station. You can record videos and also edit clips with the new video editor; you can share these with other players through Rockstar's Social Club community element.

The story in Grand Theft Auto IV here Nico Bellic who is a Russian immigrant comes to Liberty City at the request of Roman his cousin. He very quickly becomes entangled in a world with organized crime, he works his way up in Liberty City here he makes friends and loads of enemies.

Its single-player game play hasn't changed much from Xbox360 and PS3 versions. The multi-player aspect is pretty solid, it offers grand multi-player mode whilst increasing the player count starting from 16 to 32 and still performing admirably with less lag.

The PC version's editor for videos is most defiantly its greater additions. Once you create an account then log in to Rockstar's Social Club, you can then capture videos of the game-play then export to game's videos utility. From video editor clips can be edited as you like, adding filters, putting music or splicing together different videos. After editing the clip to what you like, this can be posted to the Social Club for members to rate and check out.

Even though the game has some impressive and new features which fans of GTA and gamers would undoubtedly want to experience, there are many severe technical issues with this game, and stability is very poor on machines. Beware of the games serious stability issues as it presently stands.

Graphically this game has defiantly improved from its console versions, the resolution is super-high and character models have improved. The entire city looks awesome filled with details, unfortunately the technical issues can't go unnoticed no matter how top range PC you have the settings has to be scaled downed for the game to run properly.

The sound section is not changed from its console version; this is great since it sports some amazing voice acting, excellent sound effects with a large robust soundtrack. The one thing the PC version has that the console doesn't is "Independent FM" a particular radio station this allows to import MP3 to particular folders this can be listened to during a game. Same as a real radio station, you are able just listen to music or opt for a DJ banter.

CONCLUSION:

Grand Theft Auto IV a solid port with a beloved title, except for a few technical hitches but it will be rectified soon. If you a PC-only gamer wanting to take the plunge in Liberty City then this new feature is bound to impress you. The storyline hasn't changed from its console version, the keyboard and mouse controls are very responsive when handling guns, new video editor feature rocks. Adding some compelling new features is a reward to PC gamers, only they will have to wait for Rockstar to give a patch to sort out its stability problems.

Instead of an island you are in the african savanna, tracking down a weapons dealer that is supplying the Alliance for Popular Resistance and the United Front for Liberation and Labour with weapons galore. Your job is to track down this dealer and kill him.

In Far Cry 2 you can choose between 12 characters, choosing what character you are will not have any impact on the storyline. When you arrive in Africa you will discover that your character has malaria and you must get medicine every so often to cope with the symptoms. In Far Cry 2 there are many weapons and vehicles to choose from, including boats, hand gliders, jeeps, flamethrowers, and much more! The cool thing about Far Cry 2 is you can play the game how you want. If you don't feel like doing a mission you can skip it and come back to it later. How you play it will also affect the outcome of the game, so choose your path wisely

Some things you should probably know about Far Cry 2 before you get it is that the game map is huge! I'm not kidding, it will probably take you up to an hour and a half to drive from the bottom of the map to the top and that is in a jeep. Another thing you will want to know how to do is use a map. When I play the game I probably have the map out for around 70% of the time I am playing. If you can't read a map you are in big trouble because as I said before the map is huge! You should also be ready to fight at any moment. One moment you will be driving down the road in your jeep, and the next thing you know you will be under fire from an enemy encampment just up the road

Now I will tell you the pros and cons of Far Cry 2. Now this is my opinion and it may differ from yours so please hang with me.

Pros

1. You can make a huge fire out on the open savanna.

2. Tons of different weapons and gear to allow you to play the game how you want

3. Loads of different vehicles to get you around the incredibly large map

4. Great graphics and audio to make your experience even more enjoyable

Cons

1.You are constantly getting attacked by the enemy

2. The map is sometimes too large and is very annoying when you must drive a car for 10 minutes just to get to your objective

3. Getting medicine to treat malaria is very time consuming.

All in all I would say that this is a great game for all of those who like a good fps/adventure game. It has a deep story with lots of twists, amazing detail and graphics, and lets face it, who doesn't like playing with fire! However if you hate driving cars to and fro across the map this game is not for you as most of your time in this game will be in a car. Thank you for reading about Far Cry 2!

When you get the camera take pictures of every character you can. Each picture helps build a profile of the character and when the profile is complete you will often get a bonus like increased damage against that character. Sometimes you will even get an upgrade, which can be very useful.

Collect, collect collect. When you have cleared an area, check it again and again. Collect every item you can find and search every corpse, bin, container etc. All the items could be useful. If you can't immediately use them, you might be able to use them at a U-Invent machine to make other items

Hack everything you can find. If you have the correct plasmid equipped you get a small health boost when you successfully hack a machine. If you don't you still get the advantage of cheaper items from the machines that sell. Don't destroy security cameras, it is such a waste. Hack them and they will send security bots against all enemies in the game, just draw them into its field.

You have the electro plasmid from the start. I would rate this as one of the most useful plasmids. Fire at a security bot and it will go down. You can then run over and hack it. It will then follow you round protecting you wherever it can until destroyed. Stun enemies with this plasmid and run over and hit with them with the wrench. Very useful for saving on ammo. If they are in water even better.

Killing the big daddy is quite difficult early on. They ignore you until you start attacking them, then they become a bit relentless. I would advise trying to find somewhere you can hide where they can not get at you. Run out and fire a few shots and back into hiding. Keep doing this until you have killed him. You can't go head to head with one of these in the early levels A semi circle appears round all enemies to show their health, keep an eye on this, once it is low you can jump out and finish them off.

Save often, this game can throw some nasty surprises at you just when you don't expect it. I also found mine was prone to crashing.

Setting Up Your Mouse For Counter-Strike

The purpose of this article is to help the reader optimize his mouse for Counter-Strike.

The two main factors that come into play when deciding which mouse to use for gaming are ergonomics and how many extra buttons the mouse has. The ergonomics part is obvious, gamers want a mouse that feels comfortable and natural to use. Nobody can well with a mouse that contorts the user's fingers in awkward ways. The second part is less obvious. Commonly, a player's right hand is used primarily for aiming/shooting, which in reality is underutilizing since all it takes is one finger and wrist. This article will focus on how to take advantage of the extra buttons on your mouse to optimize your gaming experience. While this guide assumes that you are using a Logitech MX518, any mouse with multiple buttons other than the standard mouse1/mouse2/mousewheel will do.

The first thing to change is the mouse wheel action. As default, scrolling the mouse wheel will rotate through your weapons. This is pretty useless because no one should use his mouse wheel to switch to a new weapon. A much more practical use for the mouse wheel is for jumping. You may wonder what the point of jumping with your mouse wheel is when you can already jump by pressing space bar. The answer is that it is practically impossible to bunny hop while using your space bar. It is much easier to bunny hop while using your mouse wheel. Type the following commands into your console:

bind mwheelup "+jump"
bind mwheeldown "+jump"

Note that you should still leave space bar as your normal jump key. You should only use your mouse wheel to jump when you are attempting to bunny hop.

The next thing to do is to make your nades easily accessible. Scrolling through your nades menu by repeatedly pressing '4' can be an annoying and time consuming process, especially if you have multiple enemies rushing you and you desperately need to pull out that flash right away. Luckily, you can skip that step and select immediately which grenade you by just pressing a button on your mouse. The best way is to assign a separate button on your mouse to each type of nade. Which button is assigned to which nade is purely based on personal preference. I personally use mouse3 for HE grenades, mouse4 for smokes and mouse5 for flashbangs. To set this up, type these commands into your console:

bind "mouse3" "use weapon_hegrenade"
bind "mouse4" "use weapon_smokegrenade"
bind "mouse5" "use weapon_flashbang"

Which button you use for each type of grenade is entirely up to you and doesn't make much of a difference. A different common setup is to not use mouse3 at all and to bind HE nades and flashes to mouse4 and mouse5, respectively, since most of the time when you throw a smoke, you are in a safe area and thus aren't in a rush to throw it. I suggest that you try different setups and stick with the one you like the most.

Even if your mouse isn't a mx518 and it has more buttons, I don't recommend that you bind anything to them. CS/CSS is a game where anyone could be around any corner, and therefore you should always have your index finger on the trigger.

StarCraft 2 is an upcoming trilogy of real-time strategy video games set in a military science fiction scenario. The game is currently being developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It will be a sequel to the highly acclaimed video game StarCraft released in 1998.

A crucial announcement was made earlier this year that StarCraft 2 will be shipped as a game with two complete follow up expansions. They have been provided with provisional titles such as Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void for the Terran, Zerg and Protoss factions respectively. The aim to provide the expansion is to give the players the feeling of a "full" game. Despite this announcement, no official release date has been announced by Blizzard. The only thing known about StarCraft 2 as of know is that it will be released simultaneously on three platforms, that are, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X, respectively. The tentative date of release is said to be sometime in 2009.

The designer and artist behind the game are Dustin Browder and Samwise Didier respectively. The StarCraft 2 game will feature both single player as well as multiplayer playing options. The game will be provided on DVD media. To play it on a PC or Mac the players will have to use a keyboard and a mouse.

The fact is despite minimal knowledge about the game; StarCraft 2 is arguably the most anticipated video game to arrive in 2009.
